They were within one when Smith converted his own 2 on 1 at 18:07 and things were looking up at that point as they trailed 3-2, but thats as close as Quesnel could get to Victoria. The only other goal was scored by Grant Toulmin for the Grizzlies. The next action for Quesnel is Sunday afternoon when they take on the Cowichan Valley Capitals.
Friday, December 14, 2007Five goals in the third period by the Nanaimo Clippers and four on the powerplay helped the Clippers to a 7-0 win over Quesnel. It seemed as the Mills were down 5 on 3 for the last 10 minutes of the game with no relief in sight, spoiling an earlier great performance from David Briere. Mikael Bedard and Andrew Cherniwchan scored two each, with singles going to AJ Gale, Brad McConnell, and Carson Schell. The closest Quesnel came was in the first period when Curt Morrison had gotten in behind the defence, but couldn't beat goaltender Michael Garman. Quesnel plays Victoria saturday, in the third game of their four game road trip on the Island.
Wednesday, December 12, 2007Two first period goals by the Bull Dogs caught the Mills a little flat and it was enough to get the win. More importantly it moved the Mills to within one point of the fifth place Trail Smoke Eaters in the Interior Standings. Becker opened the game at 45 seconds as he took a pass down low from Chad Blanleil and he jammed the puck in from the short side. Darryl Gagnon(4) has found abit of a scoring touch of late, popping in a wrap around goal at 4:14 with assists to Lee Pagee and to Tom Margetak. Becker then picked up his second of the period at 8:30 as he slid the puck along the ice, right from the face off win by Taylor Rovatti. Goaltender Grant Rolheiser then hit the showers and was replaced by Paul Barclay. Quesnel kept up the pace as Trevor Hertz(18) snapped home a shot from the slot on a beautiful feed from John Williams and David Maltais at 14:58. Quesnels Jeff Malcolm had another stellar performance in net, stopping a penalty shot by Trevor Bailey at 3:36 of the second overtime frame. Quesnel opened the scoring as Lee Pagee(9) picked up his first of two finishing off a goal mouth tip in from Taylor Rovatti. Tom Margetak picked up the second assist, at 6:16. It was Quesnel picking up two more in the third, Lee Pagee(10) as he picked up a drop pass from Rodney Lavoie and snapped home a shot to the blocker side on Kolida, and the Mills completed the scoring as Rodney Lavoie(4)turned on the red light as he snapped home a wrist shot past the glove hand of Kolida at 16:39. David Maltais and Tanner Hlookoff picked up the assists. Quesnel sees action tomorrow night, when they host Cowichan Valley Capitals.

Wednesday, November 14, 2007A 4-0 shutout by the Penticton Vees Wednesday night at home, reversed the result of a week ago. Two goal efforts by Brett Hextall and Austin Smith was all the Interior Division leaders needed as they controlled both ends of the ice all night long, shutting down Quesnel to a remarkable 10 shots over 60 minutes. If it wasn't for Quesnels Jeff Malcolm, the score could of been alot higher. The Vees had 16-0 shots in the first period as they forechecked the Mills into the ice, as they couldn't get anything going. Quesnels only real chances came on a couple of 2 on 1 opportunities, but either a blocked shot by a defenceman or a mishandled pass nullified the attack. Quesnel will need to regroup when they play in Merritt on Thursday.

Rovatti scored his second at 8:25 of the second with assists again to Hertz and Williams. Mitchell Smith scored the winner at 11:54 olf the third, with a beautiful feed across by Curt Morrison and Rovatti picked up the other assist. Konrad Becker scored the insurance marker at 16:19 of the third with Tom Margetak and Lee Pagee picking up the assists. It was the second night in a row, that the Mills allowed a shorthanded goal. Quesnel again opened the scoring on the Warriors as Konrad Becker banged in a rebound for his second of the year, after a 3-way passing play down low between Tom Margetak and Taylor Rovatti. Alex Gellert put in rebound for Westsides first goal of the night at 4:15 of the second. Westside capped the second with a third goal in a five minute span, Trevor Bailey snapped home a rebound for a 3-1 lead. John Williams had a rebound of his own, that gave Quesnel some life in the second with assists to Rovatti, and to Curt Morrison. Another costly error came when Quesnels defence couldn't execute the D to D pass and Chris Zaires put a loose puck into the top right hand corner after Bryce Kakoske wreaked havoc and sprung the puck loose in front of the Quesnel net. Westside outshot Quesnel 28-13 and the Mills 4th game in 5 days is Sunday afternoon at 2pm against the Vernon Vipers.

Then powerplay markers by Damon Kipp from the point, and Kelly Zajac from in close four minutes apart near the end of the first put the Silverbacks up 3-0. Quesnel had a powerplay to start the second, and an unusual play by Curt Morrison carrying the puck in front of his own net, was stolen by Sam Mitchell and slapped into the unsuspecting cage behind Jeff Malcolm at 5:02 of the second, shorthanded. Then it was Connor Morrison who notched the fifth and final goal of the night on the powerplay at 8:44 of the second. Quesnel was outshot 36-20, and Malcolm was replaced by Tyler Esau after the fifth goal and was able to keep the Silverbacks at bay the rest of the way. Quesnel plays in Westside on Saturday night, before wrapping up their four games in five nights on Sunday afternoon at 2pm in Vernon.
Wednesday, October 24, 2007John Williams and Trevor Hertz scored two goals apiece, but it wasn't enough as Penticton won 5-4.
